Call for Proposals: Feminist Recovery and Rebuilding Research Series

Our Generation for Inclusive Peace (OGIP) are excited to announce our next Research Series which will explore the theme of “Feminist Recovery and Rebuilding”.

The Research Series

The Research Series is a six-part deep dive into a central research theme. We are looking for 6 contributors to engage with this theme from your unique perspective. OGIP believes that research should not just be academic, so we are looking for proposals for pieces in a variety of formats: this can include, but is not limited to, photography, artwork, storytelling, poetry, blogs or academic research. This is an exciting opportunity to have your work published as part of the launch of a new and innovative platform and to influence and shape what OGIP research looks like as we move forward. You can see an example of our previous Research Series on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict here.

For this second Series, OGIP has a new Research Group, made up of former Research contributors and young feminists engaging with and working in the field of peace and security. Proposed themes for this series were sourced from engagement with our community and the final theme was chosen by our Research Group. Moving forward, the Research Group will choose the pieces that will be part of the series and will work with contributors on the editing process to help produce relevant, diverse and impactful research.

The Theme: Feminist Recovery and Rebuilding

Feminist Recovery and Rebuilding was chosen as it has a particular pertinence to the current moment and it is also a concept which is applicable in so many settings, from the global level to the individual level. “Relief and Recovery” is one of the four pillars of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and feminist recovery in post-conflict settings is key to sustainable peacebuilding. But what does a truly feminist recovery look like? Whether following the pandemic, an armed conflict, personal trauma, or any experience that sets society or individuals back, we are inviting contributors to reflect on this question and discuss what feminist recovery and rebuilding means to them. Contributors can look at this conversation from a variety of angles, including the need for decolonisation and addressing structural racism in recovery processes, or how we can have more innovative methods of rebuilding in the digital era.

Communities in all parts of the world have been negatively affected by COVID-19, and as we move out of the acute stage of the crisis the focus will shift to recovery and building back our communities. It will be essential that we seize this opportunity to radically reframe and transform the way society is structured and rebuild a more equitable world. Meaningful and active participation of young people, women, people of colour and other marginalised identities will be essential, as they are the ones presenting radical, innovative and practical solutions that we will need if we are to see sustainable transformation through recovery and rebuilding.

In this Research Series we want our contributors to explore Feminist Recovery and Rebuilding in a variety of settings and from many different viewpoints. We look forward to reading all your proposals!

The Research Process

The first step is to submit a summary and additional information on this online form so OGIP can get an idea of the type of work you would like to produce. Please make sure that your work is anchored in and/or linked to Feminist Rebuilding and Recovery. If you would like to submit research on a different theme, then please submit a proposal for the OGIP blog instead. As you will see in the form, we are willing to take submissions in a variety of formats, so do get in touch if you want to explore different options. The deadline to submit your proposals is 28th February 2021.

You will hear from a member of the OGIP team at the beginning of March on the outcome of your submission. Following this, you will work with the OGIP editorial team to set a timeline for the submission of your contribution. This will be around 3 weeks for the first draft but OGIP will be flexible to find a timeline for submission and editing that suits you. Once you have submitted the first draft of your work you will then receive comments from the editorial team within 1-2 weeks and will have an additional 2-3 weeks (approx) to address them and resubmit your next draft. There will be time for final edits and a deadline will be set for the submission of your final piece. Once finalised your work will be published on the OGIP webpage as part of the Research Series. You will be informed of the estimated date for the publication of your research once the final submission is received by OGIP.

The working language of OGIP is English, however, we strongly encourage contributors to also produce their research in other languages. Submission and drafting will be in English and the contributor will then be asked to translate into an additional language if they are able and wish to do so.

If you have any questions about the process please do get in touch with the team on OGIPResearch@gmail.com
